Hi, I am Rob, I am 56 years old and welcome to my music blog. My main instrument is bass guitar and since the beginning of 2026 I have been learning the keyboards.

My current band is called Dead for 3.

We are a 3 piece original desert rock band. The other members are Jez (vocals and guitar) and Mark (drums).

We originally played together in an indie rock band called Bundlejoy, way back in the 1990s.

We split up at the end of the 90s.

In 2024, after a break of nearly 30 years we decided to get back together and relive the old days. We recorded an album called ‘3quency found’ in 2025 and we have done a few gigs. It is great to be back playing again. We are currently working on new material with the aim of making our second album.

Me with one of my favourite albums. Power Windows by Rush

I first started playing bass in my teenage years. The 1985 album ‘Power Windows’ by Rush is probably the most inspirational album for me in terms of my bass playing. I remember hearing the album for the first time at a school friend’s birthday party. I had previously listened to some of Rush’s earlier material and quite liked it, so when I heard Power Windows, I felt that in some ways it was hearing something familiar and yet, at the time, different, as the band’s musical style had evolved and changed considerably over the years. I guess it was Geddy Lee’s distinctive vocals that allowed me to identify it as Rush. But it was Power Windows that became one of may favourite all time albums and which inspired me to play bass.

In my teenage years in the 1980s, I played in a few school and college bands and other projects. It wasn’t until the early 90s when I met Jez, that I started to play in more serious bands. We originally formed a band called Eric. We did a few gigs and recorded a three track demo but after a couple of years, we split up.

Jez and I went on to put together ‘Bundlejoy’ with Mark and another guitarist (Steve) and we spent the rest the 90s gigging regular and recording several demos and mini albums. But eventually we gave it up, probably prematurely looking back, and I personally spent the years 2000 – 2024 scarcely playing my bass.

But now I am back and feeling very motivated about my playing and enjoying the experience. One of the things that I love is that I can plug my bass into my amp and rock out exactly the same way as I was doing thirty years ago and forget the technological revolution that has taken over our lives and the planet.

In this blog i will be posting updates about my band, examples of some of my playing (bass and keyboards), reports from any gigs that I go to, and talking about music that I like or am listening to at the moment.
